Counselling for couples and individuals in Chepstow

Who am I?

My name is Isabel Davies, I work privately in Chepstow (close to Newport & Bristol) where I provide counselling for couples and psychotherapy for individuals. I am an accredited Counsellor with the National Counselling Society working towards UKCP registration and Relate qualified Couple Counsellor. I am committed to providing couple counselling and individual therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

Couple Counselling

Couple Counselling is for anyone who is experiencing difficulties with their relationship, you may be single, married, living together or apart. I see individuals and couples who define their sexuality as hetrosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.

Successful relationships are based on Communication, Compromise and Commitment.

There are different reasons couples chose couple counselling

I see couples where certain life changes have a negative impact on their relationship, such as redundancy, bereavement, ill health health which can bring up feelings of anxiety, depression and uncertainty. There may be times when you both feel in a rut and find you don't communicate as well as you used to. Perhaps you don't spend as much quality time together and this can often lead to both feeling isolated, whereas at one time your relationship was close. There may be issues around trust, particularly if an affair has taken place, as this can bring feelings of uncertainty of whether your relationship can survive.

Couple Counselling provides a confidential and supportive place in which to discuss these issues, giving you the time to openly communicate what you each need to improve your relationship. Open and honest communication can create the relationship you want as a couple, bringing you closer together in the longer term. There are times when there needs to be a discussion around separation, as this may be the best outcome for both of you and how this can be achieved particularly when there are children to consider.

Individual Counselling

There are times in your life when you feel you need to speak to someone outside your family or friendship circle. You may be experiencing a particularly stressful time, or feel depressed and anxious or you may not be aware of the reasons you are feeling unhappy and dissatisfied with your life. You may be experiencing difficulties in your relationship and your partner does not want to attend couple counselling. You are single and find forming and/or maintaining relationships difficult, or feel you are consistently repeating the same negative patterns in your relationships.

The style of counselling I work within is Gestalt as I have trained as a Gestalt psychotherapist with the emphasis on the present moment, however past life experiences can also be explored, particularly when you feel these experiences continue to affect you as an adult. This may affect your relationship with your partner, children, family or friends or you may feel your past experiences are preventing you from being the person you want to be.

One of the most courageous things you can do is identify yourself, know who you are, what you believe in and where you want to go .
